Beautiful article, George J. Ziogas, I appreciate this so much! Forgiveness is close to my heart because, without it, I doubt I would be able to end the generations of abuse from my family of origin.
With that said, it’s one of the toughest things I’ve ever done and it’s really not a one and done process, it takes a lot of internal work, self-forgiveness, compassion, and love. I think society has conditioned us to hang onto our hurts and traumas, to prevent it from happening in the future—but from my research and personal experience, just the opposite happens, when we forgive, we are able to move forward and grow.
But it’s also not a one-size-fits-all process and it’s important to be cognizant of other’s unique experiences.
